[There's some great monster propaganda in these newspapers too? Well, mostly it's just references to those old pamphlets that Horikawa supposes must have been popular some time in the past. Something about bear-fish and Count Chocula. Horikawa has never heard of any of these monsters, but he'll be learning something or another to tell stories about for later, he supposes. His mind continues to wander off the topic as he waits, but every time he brings it back with another crinkling and flip of the page. Is there anything useful in here?]

[ Now, he's ready to come out of the changing room. Five more minutes and the door knob turns to show that someone is coming out. Pushing it open slowly and peeking out just a moment, he fully comes out with his leg free, socks still on but the skirt that's just a little up from his knees. Maybe he needs to wear something longer, what if his legs get cold? A hand pressing at the fabric of the clothes to rub out a crease he's noticed before speaking. ]

[ Blinking at him who's looking through a magazine and also smoking, he's not really familiar with them but it reminds him of a pipe people use to use. ] Does that.. even taste good?

[When Yamato finally comes out, Horikawa's attention snaps back immediately. Actually, when he steps out of the changerooms, he's almost caught off-guard. It's a surreal experience seeing Yamato outside the normal traditional clothes that he usually wears, especially the Shinsengumi uniform, but nonetheless he finds this outfit to be flattering. There's a smile of approval, though it quickly shifts to confusion.]

Eh? Well, I guess it's just relaxing. Why?

[ He'll take that smile as a good thing as he stares at the smoke that's coming from what he's puffing. Yamato hasn't ever done such a thing as smoke because it's not for him, has anyone seen Souji's lungs? ] Is that so? Have you always picked up that habit? I don't remember it much at the Citadel.

[ But, seeing someone twirl around in an outfit for the person inspecting. Yamato does the same as the skirt flows just nicely and then softly lays against his legs. ] Do you think this suits me or does it need anything more? Should I find something better? [ Is he doing this justice? ]

I always have, Yasuada-kun. Maybe you just didn't see it often because you and Kiyomitsu-kun shared a different room. [It's all very matter-of-fact, he's kind of confused as to the curiosity shown towards such a mundane habit, but if Yamato's curious he guesses? Flicking the ashes in a nearby tray he nods to Yamato's question, though he stands up even as he does.]

It suits you! I'm glad, but I wonder... [Holding the smoke between his lips, he wanders off for a moment, reappearing with some folded up fabric in his hands to give to Yamato. If he unfolds them he'll find they're just... really long socks. They'd caught Horikawa's eye earlier, so.] The cold season is coming, so those might be more practical to wear with your outfit

Huh? I never noticed? I guess the smell of smoke is my least concern. Does Izuminokami Kanesada smoke as well? [ They all did share different rooms and Kashuu was probably not having any smoke on his beautiful clothes as we well know. ] You should be careful not to inhale so much, what if I come out with something bad on and you choke?

[ As the other wanders off and brings back something for Yamato to put on, they are long socks and they look rather nice. Looking towards the other, he does understand that the cold weather is coming. ] I've slept outside in the cold before, do you think I really need these?

[To that Horikawa gives a noncommittal shrug. They do take after Hijikata, after all, though Kanesan tends more towards traditional tendencies of their master ー a pipe more akin to his would probably be expected from him. The concern is still no less endearing when it comes from Yamato though, so he attempts to offer reassurances aloud on that, at least.] It's no problem, Yasusada-kun. It's not exactly something I think would happen, and besides, I don't think anything we picked out will look bad on you?

Yes. You slept outside in the cold, and then you were sick for weeks after. It's much more practical to just take care of yourself to begin with!

[ Giving thought to the long socks given to him, he stands in the area as he begins to raise his legs in order to slip them on. Rolling up the hem so that it's safely tucked under his skirt and tight around his thigh. The other one does follow suit as he rolls it up and makes sure that it's nice around his leg but maybe he should have took off his other shorter socks. Oh well, he'll be even warmer that way.

Turning just a little as if modeling his leg as he looks down, curious to what this is supposed to do for him. ] You can't blame that sickness on me, wasn't it because I was changing the reason why I didn't feel good? [ No, you were actually sick. ]

Huh.. I wonder if Okita-kun would wear these..

[ That sounds nice and all but listen he wasn't really sick-sick so he's not going to accept it. With a shake of his head as he continues to look upon the socks that he's now wearing. ] How do you know if I was really sick, I mean, we don't know how illnesses work here.

[ There's an intial shock once he hears that he should take his inquiries to Souji, a small 'eep' that's so low it probably wasn't caught. More so as if a sounds for a moving action while he takes a step back. ] He has more important things to do than judge my clothing. I can only wonder .. not ask.

I know that you were sneezing, sniffling, and acting a lot like you had a cold. I've never seen anybody who gets their changes like that. [Come on, he's about to take on his mom tone of voice? He's certainly worried enough about Yamato, considering all things, so just give him a break here. He's doing his best for him today!!

With all that flustering though, one would think Yamato was a middle schooler with a crush, rather than a sword who's stayed by Okita's side so much, and so vitally already. For Horikawa, it's more than a bit puzzling, so he tilts his head in confusion.] Should I ask, then? Hmm... it could be useful, if you only like the same clothes that Okita-san does...

It could have just been different for me. [ Yamato is going to whine and complain, he's not but you know if there's a way to get himself out of this. Though, maybe he should take responsibility or he can make sure that Horikawa doesn't worry himself over it. ] Having a cold was rather weird for me. I never knew it'd come for me.. but it could have been a change?

[ He hums a little at the other's curiosity and shakes his head next. ] No, you don't have to ask him! It's better like this.. It's trial and error to see if this work during hunting so.. [ Pulling up the long socks do they don't roll down his legs. ] I'll accept them because what if the success rate is even a little better, I'll have you to thank.

[A long moment passes after Yamato's words, where Horikawa honestly looks pretty ?~?, but sure enough it does pass. From puzzlement his expression shifts a bit closer to incredulity, almost apologetic even. Yamato? Yamato??] Eh? Do you really think I'm that cold, Yasusada-kun?

[He shakes his head, come on!! If nothing else, above all else, he wants to look after his comrades: the Shinsengumi are first on that list. It seems a little mean if he were to bring Yamato out to look at all the nice things that they couldn't have, right? For Horikawa, his money isn't much, but it's something. It's enough to afford a little bit for Yamato.]

I can probably buy you an outfit or two. It's no trouble since having these is important, right? [It's an investment to their future food source, to be honest, and though Horikawa isn't sure how he feels about the method itself, he certainly feels better about the household eating off the lowlifes he catches than Horikawa's own methods. So with that, he smiles.] Just say which are your favourites!

[ Cold? Well no, Horikawa is actually pretty warm from what he can tell. Though, he's a little shocked that the other would want to purchase something like this. ] If you're going to do that, at least let me pay you back when I get the chance. [ Yamato doesn't mind wearing only his haori and hakama day by day, it's not like he had any other outfit to wear back in the day. ]

[ Turning back around so that he can face towards the changing room again, he looks down at his socks. ] Oh, hm, do you have any other socks that goes with this skirt that I should wear or do the ones I have now will be pleasant enough? [ Turning around so that he can place the skirt against the one he's already wearing to give Horikawa a visage and an idea. ] Hm?

Ah? If you'd like, but it's really fine! [Listen!! Let him have this! He really enjoys feeling like he can be of use to the people around him, and this is one way in which he'll make himself useful? Besides, Yamato's priorities can simply revolve around Okita, and that's fine too. No jobs or earnings are needed; they don't even pay rent.]

As for the socks... Hmm, I think those ones are really flattering? [He's so casual about critiquing how his comrade's legs look that maybe it's no wonder this got mistaken for a date. Either way, he grins brightly after the comment.] So long as you think they're warm enough, they seem nice Yasusada-kun!

[ Is he supposed to be smoking inside here, where are the rules? Anyway, he takes that as the confirmation to go back inside to change into the next choice. Yamato isn't bothered by how Horikawa gave his own opinion on Yamato's body, claiming if something was a must or bust. He got mostly positive approval and it makes the uchigatana think that he's done right. Removing the one skirt he's wearing to pull the black one up his legs and the band now tight around his waist, he grabs the other and also his hakama so that he can exit the changing room.

Pushing the door back up and coming out with the final choice that he believes he can wear, he still has the obvious wooden sandals and the haori draped on his shoulders like normal. ]

This is the winner for the day, isn't it? [ Setting down both the articles of clothes on the chair where Horikawa is sitting and then fanning some of the smoke away. ] This should be fine? [ A pause.. ] Are you allowed to smoke in here, is that safe? [ Since clothes can catch on fire. ]

Why wouldn't it be? [No, really. He's genuinely confused here, this is fine, right? Look, there was an ashtray in this place anyway it's totally okay, and maybe he screws up a Big Decision here and there but he knows better to light these clothes on fire? Have some faith in your comrade, Yasukun. Anyway, regarding what Yamato has on, Horikawa shakes his head to dismiss the comment about the smoke and takes a last look. The haori is fine, because its meaning is worth far more than how out of place it looks, but the sandals...

We'll pick up one more thing on the way, if that's alright. [If they're gonna do this, they should do it properly? Though, first things first:] Ah, come here for a second, Yasusada-kun. [Because if he does, Hori will start trying to gently sort out his hair and feathers for them ー they look like they got everywhere during the changing, but it shouldn't take much for him to get them neat again.]

I never knew if it was safe smoke around clothes. I just didn't want you to pay for damaged goods, is all. [ What if an ash falls down and lights a scarf on fire, that's a scary thing but as he watches Horikawa's gaze to the ashtray that's set in place, maybe it isn't bad. He gives up for just a moment, he doesn't know this place like the back of his hand and is pretty sure Horikawa has more of a feel to Ryslig's rules than he does. ]

What's the last item on the list? [ Slipping his hands into his haori as he motions over once called for, closes his eyes the moment hands start messing wih his hair. It doesn't hurt and that's because it's done with gentle care but every so often the uchigatana opens his eyes to get a peek of the expression on Horikawa's features as he fixes up Yamato's hair. ] Ah, you didn't have to do that.. I didn't even notice. [ His head is bent down so there's easier access in doing what Horikawa must, the action is quite something but he doesn't dare say a thing. ]

It's no trouble! After getting them straight in the morning, it seems a waste not to fix them now too. [Besides, he likes to do these small things. They may not be vital in a place like this, but they're reassuring in their normalcy, and there's no reason not to try one's hardest to be a little stylish here either. He finishes up in a moment, taking one last drag of his cigarette as he looks over his work, and gives a smile of approval once he has. As for the smoke, he puts out out on the aforementioned ashtray as he turns to head back into the store.]

It wouldn't make sense to get you modern clothes without getting you shoes to match. It's best to do these things properly, so!

[ With the cigarette gone and the fix up of his hair finished, he can tell that some people are looking at them which he guesses are people admiring Horikawa's work of picking out the bottom half of a nice outfit. ] Can I see what you were smoking?

[ They're about to leave so it should be fine. But as for the shoes, he tilts his head. ] But what I have matches, doesn't it? As long as I can walk from point a to point b, it's good?

Hm? It's just a cigarette? [Nothing weird about that? Though if Yamato goes for a closer inspection, Horikawa won't stop him. He's more concerned with the task at hand.] It's not good to think, "It's fine as long as it can be used", in a case like this Yasusada-kun.

[Or really at all, considering how he feels about Kanesada's way of doing things, but Yamato has the good luck of being able to maintain good appearances very passively, so there's no point in a more general scolding. The point is that for now, this really is something that requires good looks!]
